Solar Power

Exhibited at Honey Bones Gallery, Melbourne, 2024

Solar Power is a collaborative exhibition by Annie Walter and Miriam Montgomery. It is an exploration of nature, an ode to the sun and the world we inhabit – a celebration of the sun’s ability to give life and growth. The sun drives weather, ocean currents, and holds our planet in orbit. It makes plant life possible, creating oxygen and the base of the food chain.

Our own tribute to the sun is following a long history of worship. The sun was a central figure for veneration amongst the ancient Egyptian deities (Ra, Horus, Aten). The European medieval period brought the depiction of faces and rays to sun symbolism. In Chinese culture the sun is the epitome of ‘Yang’ representing light, vitality and the east.

The sun could help power our future. The sun could also kill us all.
